Amazing Maps

We are learning to create and use simple maps to show position and direction. Maps and plans are an important part of everday life. Yesterday we read the story Hansel and Gretel. We discussed where Hansel and Gretel went, which direction they went, where they started and finished and the objects/obstacles that they met along the way. We then discussed designing the a map to show Hansel and Gretel's journey. We talked about what a map needed and the importance of creating a title for our map and a key to show what the different features represented on the map. The children then created a draft of their maps on some paper and transferred their ideas onto Kidpix. They made some FANTASTIC maps!! Ka pai!

What a clever way to use Kid-Pix. Your maps remind me of the time when I was little and did the maze activities. Good idea f using a key too. Well done!

Welcome to blogging Room 16. It's a fantastic way of sharing all your wonderful learning with lots of other people, especially your family and friends. What an excellent idea to use Kidpix to create a map. I think we will try that in Room 17. I look forward to seeing lots of other great learning ideas from you all. Keep up the great work.

Hi Room 16,
This is Mrs H in R13 (because there are two Mrs H's here at school!). I was really thrilled to hear you are right into your new class blog. I was very interested in your maps. You used a great tool to learn about maps and I will show Room 13 on Monday. We love mapping and we had to learn alot about it for our design project on the school back field.
Keep up the great work.

I really like the way you have used kidpix to draw your own maps. What clever skill to learn. I'm glad you remembered to include a 'key', so that I can work out what's in your maps. Keep up the great work.
